Throughout the 2024/25 school year Farm to Cafeteria Canada hosted School Food Solutions, a monthly working group to discuss how to build and strengthen school food programs in Indigenous communities, and how to bring more Indigenous foods and foodways into schools.

This session, Initiating a Program, focused on the challenges and successes of implementing school food programs. Scott shared his experience expanding a program from a junior-senior high school to an elementary school, highlighting common hurdles of logistics, finances, staffing and community buy-in. He emphasized the importance of clear communication, budgeting, and community involvement. The group agreed on the importance of embedding the program into the school community and articulating a common vision to ensure sustainability and success.
