Exciting news from Farm to Cafeteria Canada!

Across the country we’re seeing the momentum build for change. Parents and guardians, food providers, educators and other school food champions are working hard to create school food environments that are healthier for their students, communities and the planet.

We’re pleased to announce an exciting change in our own organization that will allow us to better support these school communities:

Farm to Cafeteria Canada is now a Registered Canadian Charity
which means that, together, we can do more to transform how food is
experienced, learned and celebrated in ALL schools across Canada!

Farm to Cafeteria Canada was born in 2011 out of a vision for food systems that nourish people and the planet. Since 2017 we’ve focused on scaling up Canada’s farm to school movement to enable students to develop life-long knowledge, skills, and habits to support their wellbeing, their communities, and the planet. We’ve done this through our Farm to School: Canada Digs In! initiative alongside more than 20 inspiring partners from coast to coast. Since then, we’ve nourished positive change in school food systems across the country (which you can learn all about in our latest interactive report).

We’ve reached more than 160 schools and 60,000 K-12 students so that:
  • Schools are serving more healthy food to students
  • Students are consuming more healthy food
  • Students are more excited about healthy eating
  • Students have more knowledge about gardening, agriculture and the environment
  • Students have more food literacy skills
  • Schools purchase more local food
  • Schools have more capacity to grow food in a school garden or greenhouse
  • Schools have more partnerships within the community
  • Students have more desire to be at school

“Over the past two years, with the changes,
the struggles and the small triumphs, we have learned:

Kids are strong.
Kids are resilient.
Kids are amazing.

We are proud to be part of the Farm to Cafeteria Canada family
and want to continue this great path of healthy, sustainable eating.”
