Photo Voice is a relational, story-based practice grounded in Indigenous and decolonial approaches. This method treats images and stories as gifts, centers participant voices, and prioritizes care, consent, and community meaning-making.
In our February 18 workshop, Gladys Rowe shared Photo Voice as a research tool as well as a way of deep listening. The conversation was designed for Indigenous school communities who are curious about using creative, participatory approaches to support learning, reflection, and student voice. You can access Gladys’ invitation to the event here.
In this session, we:
- Defined Photo Voice as a relational and story-based practice.
- Reflected on how Photo Voice aligned with everyone’s specific project, values, and community needs.
- Set Intentions to clarify what everyone hoped to learn and who that learning is intended to serve.
- Developed gentle, strengths-based prompts to spark meaningful storytelling.
- Identified next steps for implementing Photo Voice with care in a school setting.
