
On November 19, 2025, Farm to Cafeteria Canada and the Coalition for Healthy School Food co-hosted a bilingual conversation about the value of bringing chefs into school food programs.
Participants discovered inspiring ideas on how chefs are transforming school food – from scratch-made meals to local ingredients to celebrating diverse cultures and creating nourishing meals that students enjoy. Speakers from the United Kingdom and Canada showcased how culinary expertise, food literacy, and community engagement can strengthen school food programs and support long-term systemic change.

Sam leads program strategy at Chefs in Schools, a UK-based charity transforming school food by training kitchen teams to cook from scratch, reaching tens of thousands of children every day. He oversees national initiatives such as the Membership Programme and the School Chef Training Conference, helping school chefs gain the skills and confidence to serve fresh, inspiring meals.
