School Description
Our school garden has been revitalized this past year, removing established weeds and grasses to expose the greenhouse, garden beds and resilient raspberries and strawberries. Students have learned about planting seeds and caring for seedlings, about weeding and watering, how to separate strawberry plants and more. We collected seaweed for soil amendments, and clam shells for mulching and slug deterrents. We experimented with a hydroponics tower but power outages reduced our success! Summer harvested produce will be frozen and processed with the students when they return from summer break. Youth from the summer camp will assist with garden maintenance and help plant fall crops. This upcoming year, we hope to utilize the greenhouse for overwintering crops and greens, and begin work on an Indigenous Food Forest.
