School Description
The Bennett Treaty Nursery is a school-led plant nursery at the Bennett Centre in Edmonton that grows native edible and medicinal plants while weaving Indigenous foodways, ceremony, and land-based learning into K–12 education. Cultural liaisons guide protocol, plant selection, and ceremony, while propagation workshops build hands-on nursery skills. The treaty nursery will distribute plants freely to the community rather than sell them, so students, schools, and Indigenous community members can access traditional foods and medicines. The Treaty Nursery is a living classroom for reconciliation, treaty partnership, ecological stewardship, and food sovereignty.
