General Information
Grand River Food Forestry is an award-winning community-based environmental organization helping people reconnect with nature through edible landscapes, food forests, and regenerative education. Founded by Nicola Thomas, GRFF has spent the past decade creating beautiful, productive green spaces that grow organic food, support pollinators, increase biodiversity, improve soil health, and help mitigate climate change.
Known for pioneering some of the first public food forests in the Waterloo Region, GRFF offers garden design, food forest installations, workshops, youth programming, and community transformation projects. Their work blends sustainability, wellness, and practical action—making it easier for individuals, families, schools, and organizations to grow food and create living spaces of refuge and abundance.
From backyard gardens to large-scale community spaces, GRFF is rooted in the belief that healthy ecosystems build healthy communities.
