Farm to School Grant Recipients 2016
Healthy, local, food on the minds and on the plates of all students
Farm to Cafeteria Canada is pleased to announce that we have delivered 50 Farm to School grants (valued at approximately 10K each) to schools in BC and ON in order to support their efforts to get more healthy, local foods on the minds and on the plates of students!
Thanks to a generous 500K contribution by the Whole Kids Foundation, and the support of our fiscal sponsor the social Planning and Research Council of BC, and our partners at Sustain Ontario and the Public Health Association of British Columbia, at least 19,500 students will have an opportunity to feast at a school salad bar featuring a wide variety of produce harvested from school gardens and nearby farms.
“We are thrilled to support the creative program plans proposed by these schools. We cant wait to see the production of more local food in schoolyard gardens and farms – foods that will be dished up in a “farm buffet” or “burrito bar” or another salad bar innovation that makes sense in cold Canadian climates. We are eager to follow and share the progress of these schools and to better understand impact of these promising Farm to School practices.”
